Velcro as a cable tie Velcro consists of two layers. One layer has hooks and the other has loops. When these two layers are laid against each other, the hooks grab the loops. This is how Velcro stays put. Only when force is applied, the hooks release again, causing a tearing sound. Because the hooks bend back to their original state, Velcro can be used more often. It also depends on the size of the Velcro piece and how well the Velcro is pressed on. The better the loops are embedded in the hooks, the stronger the connection. It also depends on how the Velcro is laid on top of each other. If it is a curved or flexible connection, it will be less strong than a rigid surface.
