Heat-shrink sleeves for firm and durable cable identification

Sleeves are printed heat-shrink coverings that shrink precisely around the wire or cable when heat is applied. This creates a professional and permanent identification that cannot shift or come loose. The tight fit around the cable keeps the marking in place even under mechanical stress and vibration.

Sleeves are used as an alternative to self-laminating labels when an even more robust and permanent identification is required, for example in vehicles, machinery and heavy industry.

Technical features of sleeves

Sleeves from Brady and ProLabel are made from heat-shrink polyolefin with a shrink ratio of 2:1 or 3:1. They withstand temperatures up to 120°C and are available in various colours for colour coding. Special versions are available for diesel-resistant applications and as halogen-free versions with low smoke emission.

Available in UL-recognised and CSA-approved versions, printable with thermal transfer printers.

Sleeves are used in the automotive industry, machine building, railways, shipbuilding and heavy industry for the permanent identification of wires and cables exposed to high temperatures, vibration, oil or chemicals. What is the difference between a sleeve and a self-laminating label?

A self-laminating label adheres around the cable with a transparent protective flap. A sleeve shrinks firmly around the cable after heating and is more permanently attached, ideal for heavier conditions.

How do you apply a sleeve?

Print the sleeve with a thermal transfer printer, slide it over the wire or cable and shrink it with a heat gun or shrink oven until it fits tightly.

Which shrink ratio do I need?

2:1 shrink is sufficient for most applications. For larger variations in cable diameter or when the sleeve must shrink over a connector, choose 3:1.

Are sleeves resistant to chemicals and oil?

Standard polyolefin sleeves are resistant to mild chemicals. For aggressive environments, special diesel-resistant or chemically resistant versions are available.

Are halogen-free sleeves available?

Yes, halogen-free sleeves with low smoke emission are available for applications where minimal toxic smoke release is required in the event of fire.
